Spiritual Life Program

Spiritual Life Department staff L to R: Kelli Williams, Toni Brewster and Teresa Connelly
The Spiritual Life Program is an essential part of Residential Treatment. Participation in Spiritual Life activities is voluntary but most students choose to take part in at least one or two of them during their stay.
Examples of some of the Spiritual Life activities that take place on a regular basis are:
- Chapel
- Devotions
- Meditation
- Sweat Lodge
- Talent Show
- Native Spirituality Group
- Christmas Play
- Spiritual Life Retreat
Spiritual Life staff is here to support students during times of grief and loss. Students in treatment often experience emotional turmoil and spiritual exploration helps students develop healthy perspectives, strength in difficult times and provide a foundation for self-esteem.
ACS is a Christian mission supported by the United Methodist Church, American Baptist Churches USA, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and Anchorage Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Denominational, church and individual gifts provide the funding for the Spiritual Life Program.
While ACS is a Christian mission, we do not proselytize or evangelize. Our students and staff come from diverse religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. If a student needs spiritual support that is outside of the experience of our Spiritual Life staff, we seek out assistance from community members, native elders, clergy or others who can assist the student in their spiritual journey.
