Residential Treatment

ACS Residential Treatment is here to assist youth with severe emotional disturbances who need a highly structured environment and 24-hour supervision.

Our residential treatment program is housed on two campuses – Jesse Lee Campus and Maplewood Campus. There are seven cottages total:

  • Gaylor – Boys & Girlds age 6-12
  • Newhall – Boys age 12-18
  • Oliver – Boys age 13-18
  • Gould – Boys age 12-18
  • Maplewood 1 – Girls age 12-18
  • Maplewood 2 – Girls age 12-18
  • Maplewood 3 – Boys age 13-18

Before entering our program, the student’s treatment team develops an individual treatment plan that addresses issues and sets goals. The treatment team includes the student and a variety of people who are important in the student’s life and the ACS treatment professionals who provide care. For example:

  • Parents or foster parents
  • Siblings
  • Case worker / social worker
  • Parole officer
  • Licensed clinical therapist
  • Treatment program supervisor
  • Psychiatric treatment counselor
  • Registered Nurse

Students in residential treatment attend school within the Anchorage School District. Classrooms for the Gaylor and Oliver residents are on campus. Residents of Newhall, Gould and the Maplewood Campus go to schools appropriate to their location, grade level and and special needs.

Treatment work includes journaling, individual and group therapy, family therapy and issue-specific groups such as substance abuse. If a student needs counseling in an area where we do not have expertise on staff, we utilize community providers.

Students are expected to maintain personal hygiene and clean their rooms. They also perform light chores around the cottage such as dishwashing and vacuuming. If a student is planning to live on their own following treatment, they are taught cooking, budgeting and other independent living skills.

Throughout their stay with us, we work with the student to build strong, healthy supports. Family, community resources, school and a positive peer group will help the student maintain a healthy lifestyle following discharge. Following a residential stay, many of our students utilize our Community Programs to help them transition back into home life.

An essential element of residential treatment is our Spiritual Life Program. Participation is voluntary and open to all students in residential treatment.
