Admissions

If you are seeking placement for a youngster in need of psychiatric care, please review the admission application(pdf), admission criteria and exclusionary criteria for each program.

Admission Criteria for Residential Treatment

To be admitted into Residential Treatment, the student must be 6-18 years of age and meet the following criteria:

  • Currently experiencing an emotional and/or behavioral disorder that has been diagnosed by a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist
  • Disorder is severe enough that round-the-clock supervision is required to manage behavior
  • Outpatient interventions have been unsuccessful
  • Community resources do not meet the needs of the student
  • Residential treatment is expected to improve the condition of the student
  • Student has the intellectual capacity to participate in treatment

One of our residential cottages provides Abuse-Specific treatment. To be admitted into this program, the student must meet the above criteria and:

  • Primary clinical needs of the student are treatment for sexual offenses
  • The student is adjudicated for sexual offense(s) and is under the custody and supervision of the Office of Youth Corrections.
  • Admission Criteria for Community Programs

To be admitted into Community Programs, a student must meet the Division of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities criteria for severely emotionally disturbed.
Admission Criteria for Therapeutic Foster Homes

To be admitted into our Therapeutic Foster Homes, the student must be 5-18 years of age and currently experiencing an emotional and/or behavioral disorder that has been diagnosed by a licensed psychiatrist or psychologist and

  • have completed residential treatment or hospitalization for mental health issues
  • have a demonstrated need for continued out-of-home treatment
  • will benefit from individualized community-based treatment.
  • Exclusionary Criteria for Admission to ACS Programs

Students who meet any of the following criteria will not be admitted:

  • Clinical needs require a locked egress for the student’s safety and/or the safety of the community
  • Clinical needs can be met in a less restrictive environment
  • Primary clinical need is substance abuse
  • Clinical needs are not likely to respond to residential psychiatric treatment
  • Student has extensive physical limitations or medical conditions that require a specially modified living environment or 24-hour nursing coverage
  • Student has intellectual disability that would not allow for effective participation in treatment program.
  • In addition to the above, students being considered for the Abuse-Specific Program who have exhibited a history of violent sexual offenses that presents an imminent danger to other students and/or staff will not be admitted

In addition to the criteria listed above, students will not be admitted to Community Programs or Foster Treatment Homes if their:

  • Primary clinical needs are treatment for sexual offenses
  • Treatment needs require a more restrictive environment
  • Diagnosis does not meet the Division of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities criteria for severely emotionally disturbed.
