Every year, it’s a joy and a privilege to participate in our supporting denomination annual meetings. This year, the Alaska Synod Assembly was held at Fairbanks Lutheran on the last weekend in April with the theme “A Living Hope” - 1 Peter 1:3-9. The United Methodist Annual Conference was two weeks ago at Anchor Park UMC here in Anchorage with the theme “What’s Our Next Act? Our Story as Church in Three Parts” - Exodus 14:10-18. And the Alaska Baptist Churches Convention was held at Mount Pleasant ABC in Fairbanks this past weekend with the theme “The Macedonian Call”- Acts 16:6-10.
It is always an amazing blessing to be face-to-face with our brothers and sisters in Christ who are in mission together with us. For some, hundreds of miles without roads separate us. It is indeed so good and pleasant to greet and be among these friends once a year. Through our many years of work together, our relationships have grown and flourished as we bask in the glow of God’s love and light.
Without the financial, prayer and in-kind support of these church bodies, our Spiritual Life program as we know it could not exist. We are oh-so-thankful to be surrounded and supported by these great clouds of witnesses! These meetings are full of opportunities to worship, hear faith stories, participate in mission, learn more about our faith and join together at God’s table – all while doing the “business” of church. I am so grateful that as part of our time together every year, that I have the chance to stand before those who sustain our ministry and say, “Thank you! We couldn’t do what we do without you! Thank you! ”
Thanks be to God that we are never alone! That together we are a Living Hope, with an unfolding story, called to go into all the world to share Good News!
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! Psalm 133.
How good to know that we are NEVER alone! Psalm 46.
