A History of Design

In honor of the original Alaska State Flag design created by Benny Benson in 1927, our students and staff have the opportunity each year to submit their own design for Alaska Flag Day!

A vote determines the winner of the contest, whose design is then featured on all Alaska Flag Day t-shirts and merchandise. Over the entire month of April this year, design after design was submitted to me. Eventually, 35 designs filled my office and were then displayed at our May all-staff meeting last week for the final vote. After an unexpected tie-breaker vote, we had a winner—an Alaskan brown bear carrying the state flag!
This annual t-shirt design contest showcases the immense talent this organization possesses in both its staff and its students. I know I am not alone when I say that it was extremely hard to choose just one design to vote for this year! All designs are currently hanging in our hallway for all to view--Check out the top 5 voted designs below and don’t forget: Alaska Flag Day is Saturday, July 9th from 5:30-8:30PM at AK Child & Family. Bring the whole family for BBQ, face painting, live music, games and more! Additional information can be found here:
